COVID-19 Roadmap to Recovery

The NSW Government’s Roadmap to Recovery provides clarity around eased restrictions at 70% and 80% double vaccination rates and on 1 December 2021. The Return to VET Guideline supports the safe, phased return of face to face training for the VET sector.

Return to VET Guidelines

The Return to VET Guideline has been released to provide structure for the return to face-to-face training delivery for registered training organisations (RTOs), TAFE, community colleges, group training organisations (GTOs), learners and employers. The Guidelines provide clarity and flexibility to manage the needs of different local government areas in response to changes in health advice.

What you need to know

The Return to VET Guideline supports the VET sector with their return to face-to-face training in line with Public Health Orders and their COVID-19 Safety Plan. Underlying principles:

  • Vaccination
  • Mask wearing
  • Physical distancing
  • COVID-19 Safe plan for workplaces and premises

From 11 October – 70 percent double vaccinated

  • Providers should continue with online and virtual training where possible. Face-to-face training can mostly return for learners for critical skills
  • Double vaccination is strongly encouraged
  • Masks must be worn in all indoor and outdoor settings
  • RTOs with outdoor hospitality facilities to comply with NSW Public Health Order
  • Maintain 1.5m physical distancing where practicable, noting that education is exempt from the square meter rule
  • COVID-19 Safety Plan must be in place

From 25 October – 80 percent double vaccinated

  • Providers should continue with online and virtual training where possible. Face-to-face training can return for workforce and learners for critical skills and practical assessments that cannot be done online
  • Double vaccination is strongly encouraged
  • Masks must be worn in all indoor settings
  • Masks not required for outdoors however RTOs with outdoor hospitality facilities to comply with NSW Public Health Order
  • Maintain 1.5m physical distancing where practicable, noting education is exempt from the square meter rule

From 1 December

  • Face-to-face training can return for both vaccinated and unvaccinated workforce and learners
  • Masks no longer required indoor or outdoor settings
  • Masks must be worn for RTOs with outdoor hospitality facilities to comply with NSW Public Health Order
  • Maintain 1.5m physical distancing where practicable
